Mozart has many facets
Musically, privately, socially. Each person finds their own route of access to the person and to the work of the genius. This leads to a search, often accompanied by the wish to uncover the particular facet that one is looking for. However, these many facets can harbour many surprises. Even for us. As a small group of artists from the Inner Salzkammergut, we are staging a festival on the fringes of the conventional celebrations to mark the 250th birthday of Mozart with a somewhat less well-known, yet therefore even more interesting period of Wolfgang Amadeus’ life: his younger years.

In this sense, the motto of the festival which is to run over many months seems particularly fitting, however, there is even more to it than immediately meets the eye. This is because the focus on his roots also includes the family aspect. Mozart’s great-great-grandfather, Hans Wolfgang Zaller, was born in the Inner Salzkammergut. As was his great-grandmother, Anna Sophia Altmann. This explains why this Mozart festival is taking place around Lake Hallstatt, far away from the highly-cultural centres.

The unending and multi-faceted search for the real Mozart is also to be reflected in the programme. The claim of the festival reaches far beyond the reproduction and performances of the “greatest hits” of Mozart’s youth. It is to do with creating a critical analysis of the stimulating dialectics of contemporary artists and their works, which in turn are reflected in Mozart’s work and, as such, are the result of an extremely personal study of the man himself.

Look forward to a festival of exciting contrasts, new insights, a new staging of the opera “The Obligation of the First Commandment” and the winner of the grand composition competition.
