Benjamin Schmid
Benjamin SchmidHe debuted at the age of 17, at the Salzburg Festspiele under Yehudi Menuhin. Numerous first prizes at well-known competitions. Since then, Benjamin Schmid has performed in the major music centres of Europe, the USA und Japan as soloist with significant orchestras (among others, the Wiener Philharmoniker at the Salzburg Festspiele) under conductors such as Vladimir Fedossejev, Hans Graf, Roger Norrington, Denis Russel-Davies, Ralf Weikert and Franz Welser-Möst. His CDs have received major international awards such as “Editor’s Choice” from Gramophone London or the “Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik”. Benjamin Schmid is also intensively involved in jazz. This has lead to projects, concerts and recordings with partners such as Stephane Grappelli, Didier Lockwood, Wolfgang and Christian Muthspiel and Ray Anderson. He is university professor at the Mozarteum, Salzburg and plays the “Lady Jeanne” Stradivarius (from 1731) from the Donald-Kahn foundation.
