Monika Waeckerle was born in Munich. She studied at the Richard-Strauss conservatorium in Munich and at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where she graduated with distinction in the subjects opera and song and oratorio. She has received, amongst other awards, the “Lilli-Lehmann medal”, a prize from the Ministry for Art and Research in Vienna for special artistic services, and is the prize-winner of the cultural fund from the city of Salzburg. Monika Waeckerle complemented her studies in the form of drama lessons in Munich, interpretation with Marjana Lipovsek, Ann Reynolds, Gudrun Volkert, Hartmut Höll, Thomas Quasthoff, Robert Holl and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. She sang with solo guest agreements at the upper Bavarian Municipal Theatre, at the Salzburg State Theatre, the Bregenzer Festival Theatre, at the opera in Leipzig, and at the Semper opera in Dresden. She has performed in oratorio concerts, songs and contemporary evenings in Germany, Austria and Italy, and has toured throughout France and Japan.
