The Symphony G major, K 199, was completed on 10 April 1773 in Salzburg. The first two movements breathe an Italian spirit. The third movement, however, assumes a Viennese musical quality, moving away from the italianità. On the one hand, this symphony is reminiscent of the past journeys to Italy. On the other hand, it is orientated towards modern, contemporary Viennese practices. In this work, Mozart synthesises Italian and German (i.e. Viennese) styles, shapes them into one unit, and bestows the whole with an international character.
